And boy did they ever!

October 1988 and the world was going Kylie & Jason crazy! 

Kylie had already enjoyed massive success with her debut #1 single I Should Be So Lucky and a further 3 singles that had peaked at #2. Her debut album, released in July, had reached the top and by October had sold almost a million copies.

Jason had just scored his first hit single in the UK with Nothing Can Divide Us which peaked at #5 and spent 10 weeks inside the Top 40.

Add to this the unprecedented success of the daytime soap, Neighbours, in which Kylie & Jason's characters - Scott and Charlene - were the undoubted stars to the hordes of UK teenagers who marvelled at the sunny sets and blond, blue-eyed, good looking cast (maybe not Mrs Mangel!)

The Neighbours storyline was reaching fever-pitch as Scott and Charlene's wedding approached and PWL were soon receiving pre-orders from retailers for a record that existed only in the minds of it's would-be buyers.

Unable to deny the potential of the idea, Kylie, Jason and SAW decided to bow to public demand. The song of course was Especially For You which has today become a classic in every sense and sold over one million copies.

Especially For You was written in October 1988 and at the same time a second duet was written for the B side which was an unusual step for any duo act. 

All I Wanna Do Is Make You Mine was recorded in Melbourne Australia in November 1988. Pete Waterman and Matt Aitken travelled down under to record the vocals while Mike Stock held the fort back home. The song  is a fun, upbeat number with Grease leanings - Kylie & Jason not so much channelling Scott and Charlene but Danny and Sandy! It's clattering drums, rumbling bass, chugging guitars and horn blasts really selling the catchy melody, most notably its wonderful bridge - a real antidote to the sugar sweet ballad of the A side.

With both songs SAW really were covering all bases, a potential Christmas #1 ballad and a typical SAW pop dance number. To this day All I Wanna Do Is Make You Mine remains just as popular among SAW fans as the more widely-known A side.
